The Wage Gap Between the Genders in Science Related Jobs Empty The Wage Gap Between the Genders in Science Related Jobs

The wage gap between the genders in science related jobs is apparent because several resources have evidence to show that women make less than men do in the same type of jobs. According to Time magazine women earn 77% of what men earn in the same jobs. On aauw.org, the controversy is further addressed when the reader is shown that education does not affect the wage gap between genders whatsoever. For example, for both genders who never graduated from high school the wage gap is 76%, but the wage gap between genders that have a doctorate is at 79%. Therefore I, a student at the University of New Mexico, support the notion that there is a wage gap between the genders in science related jobs.

Now out of curiosity, which scientific jobs specifically? The field of science covers nearly everything imaginable. Even more specific, is there a correlation between oceanology and zoology jobs paying less for women? Or perhaps astronomy jobs compared to astrophysics?

I also agree with Adam, when you say "science related jobs" that is a very broad description. I think it would be helpful as Adam mentioned if you compare two jobs categorized under the science field. Also while looking at your subject I came across Business Insider. Business Insider says that "women in Health Practitioner support technologist and technician positions, the median weekly salary for women is $621 versus $599 for men." I agree with you on the wage gap but I think you should address that there is a possibility that women can be paid more than men in certain science related occupations.

You state that education is not a factor that plays in the this topic of wage gap based on gender differences. So given that, I am wondering what are the reasons for this then? Is it inequality or just how society views the topic, etc? I am also wanting to know what science related jobs you are talking about because you do not provide an exact name of professions that this study or research is relating to. I do know that science degrees pay well so I am interested in why there is such a huge gap if women and men went for the same amount of schooling.

I agree that women are underpaid in scientific fields compared to their male counterpart. But there is one big problem with your argument. You never give any data on scientific jobs, instead you point out wage gaps between different levels of education completed. This really hurts the ethos of the argument. I believe that there is a lot of evidence supporting your thesis but it is just a matter of finding the right evidence.

Here is an example that you could use to strengthen your point.
"But while a typical male aerospace engineer took home just over $100,000 in 2011, his female counterpart was paid $83,000." aauw.org three-reasons-the-wage-gap-hurts-women-in-stem

I agree with all the above statements. However you make a valid point. There is a clear wage gap in Gender in the scientific field, but Is it just scientific jobs that the wage gap between genders is shown? And even further, is it even true in all scientific fields? Gender inequality in the work place has been an on going problem since the beginning of time and even though there has been much improvement is there any real way to solve this? In the stance of your argument however, explaining more on specific jobs as well as specific levels of educations could provide you with better stance.
