Business Ethics in Healthcare

Imagine that you are in a hospital, you are receiving care for a drastic injury on your leg that you attained. The nurse begins to prepare you for a procedure, however when you ask about what he/she is doing they don't respond. The nurse continues to move you around and fails to respect your privacy, they go to put medicine into your IV. You have no idea what this medicine is and continue to ask the nurse but the nurse ignores you. They do mention that the doctor will be in soon and then leaves. Shortly the doctor arrives and the tech that is with the doctor prepares an assortment of tools. The doctor does not give you any information and despite your fear you begin to get sleepy and eventually you fall asleep. When you wake up your leg is gone. Ethics are essential in healthcare because it gives patients rights to know every option they have possible and also allows them to make choices regarding their health.

In a world without healthcare ethics patients would give up their rights, the working environment in clinics, hospitals, and individual practices would be unsafe for patients and workers, unsafe or unlicensed doctors and nurses could be hired which could lead to the questioning of the morality of care that patients receive. Ethics are important in any kind of organization because they provide order and law, however ethics in healthcare are the most crucial and essential set of ethics that there are.

I have had first hand experience with healthcare business ethics because I was a certified nursing assistant. I worked in a nursing home and was around patients all day and while sometimes I felt like I was being ridiculous for having to explain procedures and activities that I'd done a million times with them, I realized how crucial that practice of ethics was. Healthcare ethics are the most important ethics in business because they pertain to the value of human life and the care we receive. They are essential because they literally decide life or death, while other business ethics are important because they maintain order, health care business ethics are the most important.

I think you bring up many good points about the importance of ethics in health care. I am also a CNA and I was taught the importance of ethics in health care during my training. However I think that much of your support for your argument does not do a very good job of making your point. First off the scenario you explain in your introduction is very unlikely because health care professionals while they are not always the best at giving patients information, most of them would not be likely to amputate a patients leg without consent and additionally anesthesia medications are not given bed side. In addition to this I would suggest that you more clearly state what you are arguing before you make your argument to make it more clear to the audience. I also believe you have fallen to the fallacy of false authority because the information you listed in your opening paragraph is unrealistic, inaccurate and does not relate to your argument very well as you are not a nurse or a doctor and are not educated in the legal and ethical aspects of those jobs. To help support your claim I suggest that you use a real life example and support it with actual direct evidence.
